The Hatfield Village Plan

The Plan is a constructive survey of the community of Hatfield by the people who live and work in Hatfield, providing a community voice to create a shared vision for the future.

Village Plan Constitution

The Village Plan process commenced in October 2010 and it was published in March 2012

Thank you, to all who contributed and continue to support and contribute

A committee of 14 residents including 2 Town Councillors came together, with the aim of ensuring that the findings would fair, representative and covered issues in depth where possible and that the evidence would be available to everyone – statutory organisations, service providers, stake holders and of course residents – it still is, please email admin@hatfieldvillage.org.uk to receive a copy.

The groundwork included consulting numerous groups within the village as well many public meetings, raising awareness, lots of coffee mornings, collecting feedback forms from residents. 435 individual entries were returned. The subject categories were Housing, Crime & Safety, Environment, Possible Developments, Traffic & Road Safety and the residents themselves.

Funding was raised from Big Lottery to enable printing and meeting costs etc. From this process and from a previous plan done in 2003 a questionnaire was produced and sent to every household in Hatfield – 1926 questionnaires were delivered (in June 2011) and a substantial 1009 (52%) were completed and returned for independent analysis by Rural Action Yorkshire. The percentage return is well above the national average. After much analysis and hard work, this enabled the plan to be published in March 2012. It was received very well by residents, stake holders and organisations such as DMBC now had some feedback from residents on some of the important issues from crime & safety, housing & planning to such as litter bins and dog fouling.

Since March 2012.

Hatfield Village Watch – a new type of Neighbourhood watch with approaching 100 members, meeting with DMBC. Parish Council, Neighbourhood Policing, the Police Commissioner

Community Projects – for example the new Community Library which we strongly support, the new Barn Development, we have requested meetings with those concerned, with regard to allotments and a possible community garden and this is ongoing. We have discussed a possible Dog Warden with the Parish Council on several occasions. We promoted the one way system at the shops on Station Rd and highlighted residents wishes for 20mph limits outside schools

Community Liaison – a group member represents Hatfield in local meetings with regard (for example) to HGV’s and general traffic & road safety.

Planning and development – committee members meet occasionally with the Parish Council and DMBC planners to discuss resident’s needs, based on the Plan. The group makes representations on behalf of the Village Plan and recently (summer 2014) commented on the Doncaster Site & Policies plan which was examined in public by the Planning Inspectorate, the Inspector agreed that it was unsound to build extensively in flood risk areas. A recent planning application (Jan 2015) was refused by the planning committee, with regard to housing on Doncaster Rd/ Lings Lane, we used feedback/ evidence from the Village Plan to point out residents concerns in the application.
